Welcome to Speaks Kerala (www.speakskerala.com). Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website, how we use that information, who we share it with, and the choices and rights available to you. By using this website you agree to the practices described on this page. If you do not agree, please stop using the website.

Speaks Kerala is an independent Malayalam information portal that publishes step-by-step guides on government services, online applications, technology and Kerala news. We are not a government website and we never ask you for sensitive details such as your Aadhaar number, bank account number, passwords or OTPs. If anyone contacts you claiming to be from Speaks Kerala and asks for such details, please do not share them.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the limited information needed to run the website, understand how it is used and respond to you. This falls into two broad groups: information you give us directly, and information collected automatically when you browse.

1.1 Information you provide

  • Contact form: When you use our Contact Us page we collect the name, email address and message you choose to send.
  • Comments: If you leave a comment we collect the name, email address, website (optional) and the comment text, along with your IP address and browser user-agent to help detect spam.
  • Polls and surveys: When you vote in a poll, the poll plugin may record your IP address or set a cookie so that the same person cannot vote repeatedly.
  • Correspondence: Any information you include when you email us or report an error in an article.

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • Device and browser type, operating system, screen size and language settings
  • IP address (used in anonymised or truncated form where our tools allow it)
  • Pages visited, time spent on pages, referring website and search terms that led you to us
  • Approximate location at city or state level derived from your IP address
  • Cookie identifiers and similar technologies described below

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To operate, maintain and improve the website and its content
  • To reply to your questions, feedback and correction requests
  • To understand which guides are useful so that we can update and expand them

  • To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

3. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We and our partners use cookies for the following reasons:

  • Essential cookies: Required for core functions such as security, page caching and remembering form or comment details.
  • Analytics cookies: Help us count visits and understand how readers use the website (see Google Analytics below).
  • Advertising cookies: Used by advertising partners to show relevant ads, limit how often you see an ad and measure ad performance.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block all cookies, block only third-party cookies, or delete cookies when you close the browser. Please note that blocking some cookies may affect how the website works.

4. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC, through the Site Kit by Google plugin to understand how visitors use our website. Google Analytics collects information such as pages viewed, session duration and device type, and presents it to us as aggregated reports. We do not use it to identify individual visitors. You can learn how Google uses this data at How Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

5. Advertising and Google AdSense

We display advertisements served by Google AdSense and possibly other advertising partners. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. Advertisements are clearly separated from our editorial content and advertisers have no influence over what we write.

6. Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this website may include embedded content such as YouTube videos, social media posts or maps. Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including if you are logged in to those services.

7. Comments and Gravatar

When you leave a comment, an anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available on the Gravatar website. After your comment is approved, your profile picture (if any) is visible to the public alongside your comment. Comments and their metadata are retained so that we can recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically.

Our guides frequently link to official government portals such as UIDAI, e-District Kerala, Kerala PSC, DigiLocker and others, as well as to other third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites. When you leave our website, we encourage you to read the privacy policy of every website you visit, especially before entering any personal information.
